Middle Earth depends on the generosity of the community to accomplish its good work. The agency obtains income to run its programs from several sources, including government grants, the Somerset County United Way, foundations, special events, and individual or church contributions. The agency operates a low overhead rate of less than13%, ensuring that $0.87 of every dollar you donate goes directly to serving the community's youth. These popular proverbs were coined for a reason: prevention works. Preventing a problem is always far easier than stopping and healing an existing problem, and prevention activities have been proven to be less costly to our society, both in financial and emotional terms, over time. Many of us want to prevent the problems of violence, crime, drugs and abuse that we see in our neighborhoods, but are unsure of how to have an impact. At Middle Earth, we are all about prevention, and we offer ordinary people a chance to get involved with our organization, and thereby produce extraordinary results in their own community.

Middle Earth works with the youth of today to help guide them on a course towards becoming the responsible, productive adults of tomorrow. Our programs and services intervene during adolescence, a time when problems are just starting and can still be stopped before they escalate.

It is unreasonable to expect a child, who does not have a healthy, stable support network, to thrive and flourish in our difficult world. Youth who watch relatives or friends abuse drugs or abuse people do not have a solid foundation to grow. These children are doomed to repeat the travesties they witness - unless we intervene. It is time to break the cycle of abuse.
