Volunteer
Opportunities
Middle Earth is always
seeking volunteers to help us most effectively and efficiently meet our
mission. Following are some ways that you can get involved:
|
|
|
|
|
|
| Actively
Seeking Board and Committee Members! Middle Earth
is in search of passionate and compassionate individuals that want to make
a difference in their community. These individuals need not have experience,
but must simply have the desire and commitment to invest themselves in an
organization dedicated to providing support to our community's young people
who may not have the appropriate support systems to ensure their maturing
into responsible adulthood. Descriptions of the responsibilities follow.
|
|
|
|
|
- Board of Trustees
member: Middle
Earth is seeking volunteer candidates to serve on our board of trustees.
Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings and their responsibilities
include but are not be limited to: assuring Middle Earth's mission statement
articulates our goals, means and primary constituents served; verifying
proper financial oversight; ensuring adequate resources; confirming
an effective organizational plan; and enhancing Middle Earth's public
standing. Board training will be provided.
|
|
- Committee member:
Many of Middle Earth's functions are operated through a committee structure,
focusing on specific areas. Board committees that need to be staffed
are finance, fundraising and special events (Tour of Somerville, Three
on Three Basketball Tournament, 4H Fair and Annual Dinner). Volunteers
interested in any of these areas are invited to join a committee and
become intimately involved in the agency's operations.
- Special Event
worker: Throughout the year, Middle Earth sponsors special events
to help advance awareness of the organization and raise funds. For example,
the agency hosts the Tour of Somerville Cycling Series, a four-day event
of competitive cycling for professionals and amateurs held every Memorial
Day weekend. An event of this magnitude needs many volunteers to make
it a success. Your efforts would be welcomed for any of our special
events, either prior to the date to help plan a portion of the event
or during the event to provide the manpower necessary for a successful
occasion.
|
- Sharing Skills
with Youth: Volunteers are invited to visit our Community Youth centers
and present a skill or topic to our youth. Sharing your interests with
our community's adolescents engages our youth and improves their learning.
Examples of skills you might want to share are cooking, gardening, fishing
or some other specific sport, painting or drawing, special computer
skills, or any other special talent.
